That is a great question! In fact, it is one of the questions that we get asked the most. Of course, we pack our own parachutes! We packed tens of thousands of parachutes without an incident! We have been hired to pack BASE parachutes by the biggest names in skysports. We are also hired by parachute manufacturers to give them feedback on their parachute designs and pack the parachutes. We do not just pack parachutes, parachutes are literally what we spent our professional lives understanding.

In the process of learning to BASE jump and skydive, we learned to pack our parachutes almost immediately. Over the course of decades, we have packed tens of thousands of parachutes. Packing a parachute is an extremely intimidating task at first, but our team packs parachutes multiple times daily. The amount of time that it takes to pack a parachute can vary. It takes us anywhere from 5 minutes to one hour to pack a parachute depending on the type of jump we are preparing for.

Not only do we pack the parachutes, but we are trusted by the parachute manufacturers to help design the parachutes. We have jumped countless skydiving and BASE jumping prototype parachutes for a wide variety of skydiving and BASE jumping manufacturers. In fact, we have worked with nearly every parachute manufacturer in both skydiving and BASE jumping.

If you are curious about whether or not we pack the parachutes, this will interest you.  Matt has packed more BASE parachutes than anyone on the planet. Sure, Matt has made tons of verified BASE jumps and skydives, but he has also been hired by countless noteworthy BASE jumpers to pack their parachutes!

Matt Laj is renowned for his exceptional skills and attention to detail when it comes to packing parachutes for base jumping and sky diving. With years of experience in this critical aspect of the sport, he has earned the trust and respect of base jumpers from around the world.

Noteworthy Parachute Packing Jobs Matt Has Had:

Skydive Dubai Wingsuit and BASE Jump (2013)

The team was the most successful BASE jumping team of all time. They were on the podium at every event in the ‘Pro BASE Tour.” In fact, it was very rare that they did not sweep the podium entirely. They participated in wingsuit races, tracking races, and a building BASE jump accuracy event. Matt packed nearly every parachute for the team that season. While not competing they made hundreds of jumps for a Skydive Dubai filming project. Again, Matt packed nearly every parachute. They traveled to France, Italy, Spain, Norway, Turkey, and Oman during these projects. Matt was jumping. packing, and filming throughout the entire tour.

“Point Break” (2014)

When the remake of the cult classic film, “Point Break,” was being filmed the production hired the world’s most noteworthy extreme athletes and Matt made the list. He was a lead rigger for the wingsuit scenes in the film. They spent the summer filming wingsuit BASE jumps around Switzerland. You can see Matt’s name in the credits! We are excited to have “Tandem BASE Moab” listed in the credits of another movie this year!

Jeb Corliss

Jeb is the most famous BASE jumper of all time. Chances are that if you have ever seen a BASE jump, it was Jeb. Matt got to travel to China several times with Jeb Corliss to oversee Jeb’s parachutes. He has been at the forefront of BASE jumping for decades. Needless to say, being trusted to pack his parachute for his mega-stunts in China was an honor.

Miles Dashier and Red Bull’s world record for most human-powered BASE jumps in a day

Miles is the most accomplished BASE jumper in the Red Bull Air Force. He has been at the forefront of BASE for decades.  Miles set out to jump the perrine bridge in Twin Falls Idaho 65 times in 24 hours. In order to do this, he needed parachute packers to help.  Again, Matt made the list of people to be trusted for this task. Matt personally packed 27 parachutes that day.

All of that is super cool and does not even account for the years that Matt spent packing thousands of tandem parachutes at Mile Hi Skydiving in Longmont, Colorado.

So, the guy packing the parachutes at Tandem BASE Moab is the same guy packing for the most noteworthy and accomplished parachutists on the planet. When it comes to packing the parachute, yes, we pack the parachute and quite a bit more. Feel free to ask us any questions you have about parachute packing, function, or anything else. Again, we encourage you to verify all of our claims. Our accomplishments are verifiable!
