FAQs
Do I need any prior experience?
No, you do not need any prior experience to make a tandem BASE jump. Tandem BASE Moab will teach you everything you need to know!
Is tandem BASE jumping safe?
BASE jumping carries inherent risk, and it’s important to understand that before signing up. That said, Tandem BASE jumping is the most controlled form of BASE jumping, using specialized gear and deployment methods designed to reduce variables. At Tandem BASE Moab, we use a “static line” system that initiates parachute deployment immediately after exit, ensuring it opens within a consistent distance and direction. This system is backed by redundancy and is the same method used and tested by the U.S. military. Safety is always our top priority.
How long does it take?
We have packages that can be done (without rushing) in as little as 2 hours all the way up to half day excursions.
What should I wear and what do I need to bring?
Athletic attire is recommended – appropriate clothing and shoes for hiking. We also encourage people to bring their cell phones for pictures along way and a collapsible water bottle (we are happy to provide one if you don’t have one). We have a safe place for your phone when we jump.
Am I guaranteed to jump? Are there restrictions?
Jumping with Tandem BASE is never guaranteed and is evaluated on a case-by-case basis for safety reasons. Our current weight limit is 200 lbs, and we use BMI (body mass index) as part of our assessment. You must be 18 or older to jump.
For older participants or anyone with health conditions or physical limitations, we will set up a quick phone call to talk through the process and expeirence and ensure it is a good fit. BASE jumping involves hiking, cliff access, landing impact, and general physicality—so we want to make sure it’s the right fit for you and that we can offer the safest, best experience possible. Please note: we are not medical professionals and cannot medically clear anyone to jump.
Is there a height requirement?
There is no maximum or minimum height to jump!
Is there a maximum weight requirement?
The maximum weight is 200 lbs, above that is on a case-by-case basis with an absolute max of 230 lbs. As weight is added under the parachute, it changes how it flies and lands. This rule is made to keep both the instructor and the client safe.
Is there an age requirement?
You must be 18+ and able to sign consent for yourself.
Can I jump alone?
This experience is for a tandem BASE jump in which you are attached to a professional instructor.
If you wish to jump alone, we are happy to point you down that road! The prerequisite for a course to learn to BASE jump on your own is 200 solo skydives as a licensed skydiver.
To get started, we can recommend skydiving facilities all over the world depending on where you live. If you’re local check out Skydive Moab!
What happens if I’m too scared to jump or decide I can’t go through with it?!
No problem. We are here to lift you up and encourage you, but ultimately the decision is yours and we respect that.
What is your refund policy?
Tandem BASE Moab takes pride in high-quality customer service. We take a $100 deposit prior to the jump when you book your reservation, it is FULLY REFUNDABLE unless you no call/no show up at the time of your jump. If you hike all the way up to the cliff, decide “no way” and walk back down, we do not charge you for the jump. When you are standing at the edge, money shouldn’t be what’s on your mind.
How many jumps does each instructor have?
Each instructor has an average of 10,000 skydives, which are essential training to tandem BASE jumping. Anyone can claim jump numbers but we encourage you to look up our instructors and verify their accomplishments and accolades within the parachuting industry.
