Is Tandem BASE Jumping Legal?

Tandem BASE Jumping in Moab: Legal, Safe, and Welcomed

Is Tandem BASE Jumping Legal?

Absolutely, Tandem BASE jumping is legal. There is a common misconception that BASE jumping is illegal, but this only applies to National Parks and a handful of cities. In places like Moab, BASE jumping is not only legal but also well-received by both governing bodies and locals.

Legal and Legitimate Operations

To operate legally and legitimately, Tandem BASE jumping requires insurance and a business permit. Tandem BASE Moab meets these requirements, ensuring a safe and professional experience for all jumpers. Since 2012, we have been at the forefront of establishing a positive relationship with the city of Moab and the Bureau of Land Management.

Building a Positive Relationship

Our journey began in 2012 with the establishment of the Turkey Boogie fundraiser, initiated by Matt, the owner of Tandem BASE Moab. Matt recognized the need to improve the perception of BASE jumping and created the fundraiser to showcase the sport positively.

Turkey Boogie Fundraiser

The Turkey Boogie fundraiser has been a significant success. Since its inception, BASE jumpers have raised and donated over $180,000 to various local organizations, including the local Search and Rescue team, Ground County EMS, Seekhaven, Grand Area Mentoring, The Garden Youth Project, and numerous other non-profits. Additionally, funds have been allocated for installing bathrooms in high-volume recreation areas and setting up BASE jump information kiosks. All these efforts were made in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management at their request.
